I assume there comes a time in everyone's life when they sit
back and think hmmmm if I were to ingest a text, I wonder which book I would
chews ahem, choose . . . Perhaps not, but for interests sake, if I had to eat 5
books, be it literally or figuratively, my selections would be as follows:
1. The most obvious of choices, a cookbook. I'm not
exactly sure which specific cookbook I would choose, but it would have to
include illustrations of savoury appetizers and crispy salads so that I could
drool over the images and imagine that tearing off each leafy page would be as
delectable as the oil and vinegar based lettuce itself mmmmm . . .
2. Peggy Parish's Amelia Bedelia. Just as many people
become overwhelmed with the so-called cuteness of a newborn baby, declaring
they could just "eat" a poor child up, I feel this way about Peggy
Parish's entire Amelia Bedelia series. Of course, it would just be pure
gluttony to indulge on the entire collection; thus, I would without question
eat up the premiere text which started it all. The one, for anyone who is
unfamiliar, where readers learn that Amelia makes the meanest Lemon Meringue
Pie - deeeelish!
3. John Richardson's Wakousta: the novel which I
consider to be my greatest literary accomplishment! You see, it was not easy
"digesting" this text as a student, yet I could not have felt more
satisfied after I labouriously completed this task. Thus, I feel that eating
this novel just might offer up that same sweet satisfaction . . .
4. Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. This
play for all intents and purposes, cracks me up! And, for some reason, I get a
kick out of those "cucumber sandwiches" they so often mention. Being
a fan of both laughter and cucumbers, I could only hope that chomping at this
book would put a smile on my face as I laugh at my own ridiculous actions and
envision those tiny sandwiches prior to eating my final book.
5. The only text in which I had to contemplate over . . . And now, it
seems absurd that it took me more than an instant to come to this conclusion. The
Dictionary. Of course! Conveniently, the dictionary contains chips,
dip, pasta, pickles, pudding, sandwiches and pizza (to name a few). You see,
not only can I devour all of my favourite foods whilst eating this book, I
would also hope that by consuming the dictionary I would gain and retain the
ability to utilize and define more than just the mere quintessential words I
know today!
Now, what books would you chews?
